Women's Health in Podiatry

At Hip to Sole podiatry, we recognise the need to cater for women's health from a podiatric vernacular. Below are a few of the factors that may influence our feet that we help to treat and manage.
During pregnancy, hormonal changes and fluctuations in water content in the body can cause laxity in the joints and increase muscular strain on the hips, knees and feet. Venous flow to the legs can also be impacted due to the hormone "relaxin", this may cause swelling in the legs and feet. At Hip to Sole, caring for women throughout their pregnancy is vital to ensure maximal comfort and ease throughout the pregnancy!
Hormonal Factors
Menopause, PCOS, Endometriosis, thyroid imbalances (hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism).
Women go through many hormonal fluctuations throughout their lifetime. Hormonal fluctuations and imbalances in menopause, PCOS, endometriosis and thyroid can directly influence laxity in joints, muscular flexibility and pain in the hips, knees and feet. The skin hydration may also be impacted, making it more likely for heels to be dry and cracked. Our podiatrists are experts in helping you manage any hormonal imbalances that could be affecting your lower limbs.
Pregnancy
Autoimmune
Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Psoriasis, Lupus, Sjogren's disease, Addison's disease
Autoimmune conditions can cause inflammation, swelling and increased levels of pain in the joints and muscles, which can be debilitating. Autoimmune conditions require a multimodal approach to treatment which may include exercise and stretching, orthotic therapy, manual therapies. We are passionate about helping you regain your quality of life and get back onto your feet.
Hypermobility
Hypermobility is a hereditary condition that causes increased range of motion and laxity in the structures of the ligaments that hold the joints together. This increased range of motion may be a cause of unwanted lower back, hip, knee and foot pain which our podiatrists can definitely help with.
